Spanish for Social and Health Workers

Spanish for Social and Health Workers consists of language courses designed to help anyone who works with a Spanish-speaking population to be more effective with clients. Social Services staff and Healthcare workers often interact with a public whose first language is not English, and they know that everything depends upon effective communication when people are in need. Learning the specialized vocabulary and phrases for the Social Services or Healthcare fields removes the frustration that comes from not being able to identify needs, or provide advice, or even to obtain basic demographic information. Spanish for Social and Health Workers at Maria Oliveira’s Language Learning Center teaches students the necessary words and phrases that will get a particular job done. From helping clients fill out forms to identifying symptoms of illness to determining childcare issues, knowing how to ask questions, and understanding the answers, greatly improves confidence, efficiency, and overall effectiveness. With the right language skills there is no need for delays while translators are called in; clients are more at ease knowing they are understood, and everyone feels respected both culturally and personally.

Classes for both Social Services staff and for Healthcare workers are available on Saturday mornings, several times throughout the year, and Maria Oliveira’s courses are approved for students who need Continuing Education Units.  You can find the schedules for these classes on the website, or by calling the Center.

But Spanish for Social and Health Workers is not just for beginners. Students can brush up the skills they learned years ago, and those who are motivated to go beyond the basics can progress to advanced levels by taking classes at Maria Oliveira’s Language Learning Center. In 6-week sessions that are offered every term throughout the year, the learner absorbs vocabulary and grammar in manageable, progressive units until forming sentences and expressing thoughts becomes a skill set for life. For all language students, our blogs and free lessons just might lead to trying our online courses or workbooks. Learning Spanish has never been more convenient with our CDs, study aids, and other materials, all designed for the adult learner.

Although Spanish is one of the most frequently requested languages for second-language learners, Maria Oliveira also offers classes in European and Brazilian Portuguese, Mandarin, and French. All of them can be adapted to provide key Social Worker and Health Worker vocabulary and phrases. And it isn’t difficult to imagine how handy a second language can be for traveling during those much needed vacations. Speaking the local language when you are among native speakers is a lot more fun than pointing and gesturing to express yourself. Refine your professional skills, improve your promotional potential, or use your language skills to broaden your experiences and exercise your brain; whatever your motivation, there is nothing quite as rewarding as being bilingual, even if it’s just long enough to get a task done. At Maria Oliveira’s Language Learning Center, we can help you achieve your goals with affordable, convenient classes and materials. Check us out now!
